Still wondering about US complicity in Haiti's collapse? The Boston Globe has published an informative article on the subject. An excerpt:

"... For three years, the US government, the European Union, and international banks have blocked $500 million in aid to Haiti's government, ravaging the economy of a nation already twice as poor as any in the Western Hemisphere..."This is a case where the United States turned off the tap," said Jeffrey Sachs, an economist at Columbia University. "I believe they did that deliberately to bring down Aristide..."

Notice that the date of this aid cutoff coincides with the current Administration's taking office. Laying a little extra death and misery on foreigners is just fine with these folks, if it suits their political ends.

Curiouser and curiouser? MSNBC/Newsweek has substantially changed their article regarding the Bush campaign/fake firefighter flap. If you click on the link I provided in the previous post, no mention of this or the "quote" appears.

The Bush TV ad fracas just keeps getting better. Turns out that the "firefighters" in the latest ad were actors:

"Where the hell did they get those guys?" cracked Harold Schaitberger, president of the International Association of Fire Fighters, which has endorsed John Kerry, when he first saw the ads. (A union spokesman said the shots prompted jokes that the fire hats looked like the plastic hats "from a birthday party.") "There's many reasons not to use real firemen," retorted one Bush media adviser. "Mainly, its cheaper and quicker."

Or maybe the real reason is that it would be too hard to find real firefighters who would be in the same room with the guy and not spit on his shoes. Practically nothing that *w promised to the first responders in this country in the wake of 9/11 has actually been provided.

Just another example of the Administration policy of "say one thing, do the opposite."
