The more things change Habakkuk was a minor old testament prophet who lived around 700 b.c.. I had a chance to read a bit of his stuff recently, I was surprised at the similarities between the ancient Chaldeans, their leadership, and what we see today:

For, lo, I raise up, that bitter and hasty nation, that marches through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling-places that are not theirs. They are terrible and dreadful; their judgment and their dignity come only from themselves. Their horses also are swifter than leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves; and their horsemen press proudly on: yea, their horsemen come from far; they fly as an eagle that hasteth to devour. They come all of them for violence; the set of their faces is as the east wind; and they gather captives as the sand.
